Fuel-efficient routes in Google maps
by bernt & torsten
Google maps have launched a new function that will help the user save on fuel and choose the most environmentally friendly route.
The feature allows the user to see the relative fuel savings and the time difference between the fastest and least fuel-efficient routes, provided they are not the same route. The feature is based on AI technology that analyzes carbon dioxide emissions based on the planned route, including traffic conditions and the road’s steepness.
The service was first launched in the USA, Canada and Germany, where, according to Google, it helped to save an estimated half a million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.
The function will be rolled out in Sweden and will be available to all users in the coming weeks, according to a press release from Google.
